The Destination, Not The Journey

I am rearranging some furniture around the house to accommodate some work arrangements and all these are starting to annoy me. I just want a place to do some extra work, and the challenge of finding an arrangement that – works for me, works for the family, is suitable for both summer and winter, and doesn’t break the bank along the way – is starting to feel a bit too much. Some people would on the contrary would think this things are not easy, and would not be bothered one bit. They would enjoy the process.

I am reminded of a friend, who is often amazed that I read a lot of books (to his view) and he would asked what was the book about. Sometimes some books are not too easy to be explained, and the ‘greatness’ of the book or story would be lost if it is summarised, so I would say to him, that he needs to read the book to know the story. His words would be, he doesn’t want to read the book, he just wants to know whether the story is good or not. In a way, he wants the end, while I enjoyed the process (of reading).

In this case of me arranging the furniture, I just want to reach my destination, of having a conducive home office, and I don’t care much about the journey. Sometimes, it is about the journey, but today, it is about the destination.

Different things, different people, different values.

Thank you for reading.

This…

  • The Tradeoff of Age

I was tidying up my digital desktop when I found videos from my old days, 13 years ago to be exact. I was explaining to my friend how I won a phone, and said he was the umpteenth person I had to relate the story, so he jokingly recorded me explaining it. The video still…

  • A Bit Slow

I felt a bit slow today while working, in the sense it took me quite a long time to digest certain part of my work. I also joined a study group and by the end of it, I was partially lost. My colleague who conducted the study group blissfully explained points that I was struggling…

  • It’s a Mistake

Years from now, people will say it is a mistake. A mistake to let it happen, to let the massacre continue. Years from now, when their predecessors have waned in their powers, the then ‘leaders’ will then admit, that it was a blunder. A blunder to let the genocide go on unchecked. Decades have gone…
