Thank you and see you again!

Today is the last day of me working in MRT Corp, after a tenure of 8 years. Words escape me, so I expressed in this poem, one which I read during my farewell luncheon.

Sorong papan, tarik papan,
buah keranji dalam perahu;
sebelum makan ada ucapan,
sebelum pergi, saya nak bagitahu

Kalau ada sumur di ladang,
boleh saya tumpang mandi;
Kelam kabur mata memandang,
Berat rasanya di dalam hati.

Pisang emas dibawa berlayar,
masak sebiji di atas peti;
Ramai bertanya, terkejar-terkejar,
Faris oi Faris awat nak berhenti

Pulau Pandan jauh ke tengah,
Gunung Daik bercabang tiga;
Gaji padan, bos pon ramah,
Tapi aik! berhenti juga?

Buah cempedak di luar pagar,
Ambil galah tolong jolokkan;
Sudah tergerak untuk sambung belajar,
Terpaksa MRT saya tinggal kan

Tuai padi antara masak,
Besok jangan layu layuan;
Setakat ini saya berborak,
Jumpa lagi di lain laluan

Ein zwei drei, vier bis zehn,
Vielen dank und Aufwiedersehen

A point diverged in a route,
And I, I took the one ATP set 🤣🤣

    … in 5 years time? That’s the question that is normally asked in interviews, or something along the line. Whether it’s a 3-years, 5-years, or a decade long plan into the future, they all ask the same thing; to project or foretell the future. I was asked the question today during a discussion with my…

  • Being A Child

    My eldest daughter was teaching her younger sister to read and was explaining it phoenitically. If you don’t know what phonics is, it is pronouncing the letters the way it sounds, not the way it is pronounced. Yeah my explanation sucks. For example you pronounce the letter ‘s’ not ‘ass’, but instead ‘ssss..’ as in…

  • Under promise

    There’s a saying in project management, or even the corporate world, that you should under promise but overdeliver, i.e. you say you can do something by the end of the week but you try to finish it even earlier, for example by the middle of the week, or even earlier, like the end of the…

  • The World as We See It

    A fellow Malaysian has a daughter who came over and played with my children. This girl was born in the UK and is 7 years old. When I spoke to her in Malay, she looked askance. I asked my friend whether his daughter knows Malay, to which he answered yes, and claimed she was just…

  • Youtube As A Learning Source

    People can learn a lot from Youtube. I learnt a lot, and I used it normally when I have trouble understanding complex engineering concepts, especially after reading about them on Wikipedia. There are certain things that can need a video or at least more visual representation, in order to understand. I guess in the days…
