Cringe and Oldies

Once in a meeting, my colleagues mentioned about the Queen, and how they like Queen’s songs. The word was “They don’t make songs like they used to, anymore”. I kept quiet but thought to myself, Queen is great but there are great songs nowadays too.

Fast forward to a few days ago, my daughter was practicing for her school play, and the song was about how their parents are so cringe. I said, “What? Why are you saying that?!”
My daughter defended by saying that it was just a song. Then she added though that most parents are cringe. And I can her implying that by most, that includes me.

Clearly there’s a generational gap here, as between me and my colleagues, there is a 20 years gap and an even bigger gap between my daughter and I. I just thought it’s funny that the ‘previous’ generation think theirs was the best, and the current generation sucks, while the future generations thinks the current generation is cringe(y), which means we suck too. So conclusion is, my generation sucks.

I’m pretty sure when I get old, my peers would say the music of our generation is the best, and my grandchildren will lament that my daughter is cringey. Until that time, I have to content being in the generation that is hated.

Thank you for reading.

  • Black Friday

Why do they call it Black Friday? I asked chatGPT and its unconvincing answer was that people used to do so much shopping that the police or enforcement said that it was a black day, i.e. it is a bad day to work. The term was then supposedly hijacked by capitalism and applied commercially. Yeah,…
