Finder’s Keepers: Book Review

The book is by Stephen King and is in fact the second in its series. The first one was Mr. Mercedes and it was turned into a movie a few years ago. I quite liked the first one so I read the second one. After finishing it, I was a bit disappointed that although initially it was a detective kind of book, it turned out into or has a slight hint at the paranormal. But still, like all or most King’s book, the story was good with the characters developed slowly.

Feeling a bit empty after finishing the book, so I did the logical thing that is still related to the book, which was to go on Goodreads to read the reviews. Some reviews are aligned with my view, with some as short as “It’s Stephen King’s, go read it”. Then there were some that criticised the book, in a fair way I might add. They commented on the plot, the pace where it suddenly shifted from gear 1 to gear 6, and the repetition to the main characters, things that the reader already knew. These were fair comments but while reading the book, I didn’t feel so strongly about them. I thought for a while before writing this post.

I think the reason people are too ‘strict’ is because Stephen King is so good at producing books, reviewers and readers held him at a different level. About the comments on the book, if it was another writer or a new writer, I think people would gloss over them. In many ways you have to agree that he has been so successful that a slight slip will be called a mistake, which is good, because he has performed so well.

I would love one day to have that same level of success, and I am sure there will be many more slip ups along the way, so I need to remind myself that these comments are not because I am bad, but because I am getting better (not as great as a writer, but getting there!).

Thank you for reading.

In most situations, keeping things simple is the best way to get things done. But when you look at great things, they are rarely simple.
