Just Get It Done

I am getting old and older and I am now becoming more comfortable with the concept to just get the things done. I used to spend hours customising my phone or PC background, but nowadays I just use the default ones. While doing my work recently, I must say I ‘submit’ a very shitty work but I think it was the better of the alternative, which was sitting on the work for too long, and not getting it done. When I submitted my work, it got reviewed, and I can at least learn from my mistakes and have a fresh set of eyes. Of course this must be balanced and not be a habit to just ‘outsource’ my work (I know the feeling as I have been tasked with cleaning other people’s work).

Similarly I saw recently a video talking about reading a lot, and one of the tips was to stop reading books you don’t like or think not useful. Put it aside, similar to just getting things done. The book doesn’t suit you, just accept it and move on. The video says use the rule 100 minus your age, so if you are 30 years old, you should read 70 pages (100 – 30) and if you feel like you’re not liking it, then drop the book and consider it DNF (did not finish).

I like that. I think I’ll apply the same thing in life, something like I’ll try to plough through some work but if I can’t get it done within certain time, I’ll either drop it or delegate it. I am not too sure what’s the heuristic or matrix but for now, I think a week would be the max that I should dwell on a problem. Let’s see what my future self thinks.

Thank you for reading.

  • Political Statement

My wife and I were watching a clip about a parliamentary session, where the politician gave a very vague statement, something like, “We do not condone bad behaviour.” My wife complained that the speaker didn’t answer the question. Of course he didn’t, he’s a politician. He gave a political statement that can be interpreted either…

  • Wielding Words

What is the greatest skill that a human can have? I think it’s the speech, i.e. the ability to speak and convey ideas, the skill to wield words and to make people move, which in turn makes the world move. Why do I say that? I believe we human beings can be made to do…
