Weather and Requirements
The weather was quite nice this past weeks. I would never have understood this before, but I drove around with the windows down last weekend as we went to the beach. Why would I have not understood that? Because in Malaysia, it is blazing hot and you’d be out of your mind (or your air-conditioning doesn’t work) before you would start driving around with the windows down. The car needs to be air tight and the air-conditioning going on a few minutes, before it is humanely possible to drive. The weather last week was in comparison sunny, hence the heat in the car, but still cold enough outside, that it was pleasant enough to drive with the windows down. This combination is not possible (except maybe in certain highlands) in Malaysia, hence it is hard for Malaysian to imagine driving around with the windows down.
Similarly products sometimes specify that it can work at temperatures up to 55 Celcius, which is not something expected to happen in the environment in Malaysia. The hottest it would be is maybe around 40 Celcius, maybe another 10 Celcius if it is attached to a metal. Hence a product that can withstand 55 Celcius would work, right? However this requirement doesn’t exist on its own. The weather in Malaysia can change from hot to heavy rain within minutes, before returning to being hot again after that. I also think the strong UV ray doesn’t help and adds to the temperature fluctuations. Altogether they cause products to crack and deteriorate quickly, failing well before their product life. Disputes arise. Suppliers will say that their product satisfied the requirements, and it did. Problem is, the real situation is a combination of all the condition, and something that is a bit hard to imagine about, unless you’ve experienced it.
So in conclusion, put your boots on and visit the site. I guess.
