Driving and Being Grateful

I went to a client site today which was around 80km from my house. I normally walked to work so it has been a while since I had to drive to anywhere, for work. I did go to the same site last year but it was with another colleague, who did all the driving. Alas, today I went alone. Previously it took around 40 minutes, when we departed at 7 am, so I thought I would do the same today.

Unfortunately when I departed at 9 am, it was raining heavily and the traffic was bad. Even if it wasn’t raining, I think it would have taken longer still, because traffic is much worse in the late morning, as compared to the early morning. I had not considered that. So I arrived late. After around 60 minutes, I arrived. The traffic added around 20 minutes more.

It was even worse on the way back. It took 1 hour and 30 minutes. And it was very boring, driving slowly through traffic. It’s been a while since I go through jams but I this bring back all the memories. I am reminded by how much time was spent driving I used to do, that made me realise how much I hate it and how lucky I am to have a workplace so close to home.

Sometimes you need to be reminded of hardship, and how far you’ve come, to be able to be grateful.

Thank you for reading.

These seems the buzzword these days; mental health and your emotional wellbeing. Like many things in life, I have conflicting feelings about it. • Aim For The Stars

At the end of last year, I set a reading challenge/aim to read 54 books in 2023. This was based on my logic that I could read and finish one book each week, which accumulates to roughly 52 books yearly. Just for fun, I added two more books to that and it became a target…

  • I Must Be Getting Old (III)

My daughter asked me during dinner today if I know the meaning of the word bigback. “What?” I asked. “Bigback,” she said again. I asked her to spell it out. Still didn’t ring a bell. “It’s a term for someone who likes food,” she said. “Although it can be derogatory, depending on the tone.” “I…

    It’s Okay To Look Stupid

It’s okay to look stupid, while learning. At least that what I tell myself most of the time , especially when the subject is tough. Because you need to start somewhere and when you start doing something, you might do or ask things that might seem stupid to others. Yes, I think there are stupid…
