AI Makes You Lazy

My previous lecturer posted on Linkedin of how people completed a task in designing a transport system for an airport, without even reading the resources he attached with his assignment. He asked if people were too quick on arriving to a conclusion (which is a big no-no in Systems Engineering thinking). I think he’s wrong; people simply pasted the assignment into AI and pasted it back as assignment completed. Most likely people didn’t even read their own assignments. In the old days, TV shows have bullies submitting homework from their bullied victims and it will later lead to an embarrassment because the work will have some mistakes, but with AI, this is rarely happening. Or people are just not embarrassed anymore?

Anyways I don’t want to be the kettle as I’ve realised that I have also become lazy in most aspects. When asked for opinions, I now will ask AI to do it. They usually come with a plausible answer(s), so much so, that I have now rarely questioned them back. I have delegated my thinking to them. That said, I don’t ask AI questions that have great consequences, but still, it has made me lazy.

Amazing how a few years have made our way (or at least my way) of thinking to change. Excited (and worried) to see how humans will use AI in the new feature.

Thank you for reading.

In movies, when the bad guys do something bad, I have always felt anger and in certain cases vengeful. I assume others feel too as this is a way that storytellers try to play with your emotions and pull you in, keeping you invested. The difference in movies, normally, there is payback and the heroes…

My son came and ask whether the Apocalypse is real. What kind of apocalypse, I asked back, and he said something about zombie apocalypse. That’s too much Marvel, superhero and Minecraft for him. It’s been the news these days, with the turmoil and takeovers that is going on in OpenAI. Most people won’t be familiar to them, but might be instead familiar with their app/product, ChatGPT. We will see in the future how the saga unfurls. Regarding AI, people are putting a lot of hype on it. It…

A friend suggested that I join a professional course, which seems like a very good one, but requires a substantial amount of payment. Even if it didn’t cost anything, there’s still the time needed to be invested. So any way you see it, there’s always a cost to learn anything. I know I wrote previously…

I talked to a friend whom I worked with in Malaysia. We caught up with what happened and he asked about what’s the best way to show a resource in a project. A graph for project planning essentially. I racked my brain for a while before I truthfully answered that I didn’t know. I haven’t…

  • What Is Your Job?

Some people say it is rude or a bit intrusive to ask what a person does for a living. One reason I agree with is when the question then leads to asking how much that person earns, which I agree is private to him/her. Unless you are very close, question about salary seems sensitive. But…
