Poorly

For those who don’t know, poorly means unwell, or sick. I think it is a north-west/Manchester slang (Mancunian) thing. Or maybe every British uses that, I don’t know. At first I find it appalling as it seems poor equals to sick, but now I believe it came from the sorry condition one is when he/she is sick, and what people would normally say to a sick person, “Oh, poor him!”

Anyways, ’tis maybe the change of the season where the temperature dropped from 13 degree Celsius to 1 degree Celsius, within a few days. I know that is not as severe or volatile as other places further from the equator, but it is harsh enough I guess to cause most people to become poorly. My family for example has three members having fever and flu, and from what I heard from the school, they are not the only ones who are suffering.

Hence life seems to slow down when you or your family gets sick. Priorities shift a bit and routines are suspended. I wonder how people who have long-term illness cope. I wonder how the people who are in Palestine, cope with sickness, for their situations are far, far worse and they surely are more susceptible to diseases. Makes you feel more grateful, ironically, when you get sick.

Here’s a dua to all people who is suffering to be granted recovery, and for the oppressed to be saved.

Thank you for reading.

    Thank You, MRTC

MRTC stands for Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, a government linked company in Malaysia which I used to work since 2013 until 2021. Today marks the day that I started working there (and a decade of working there, if I had stayed). I spent 8 years working there, and although I have left the place for…

  • FMEA and Politics

“What do politicians want?” a speaker asked an audience once. “To get more power,” came the answer. The crowd laughed. The speaker nodded, “Yes, you can argue that. They want to be voted, to stay in power.” This memory stayed with me because at that time, I thought it was a vile thing to want,…

  • New Habit Unlocked!

I’ve just created a reminder to take a photo of me and my wife every weekend. The title is a bit misleading as I’ve only started doing this and I consider it not a habit yet. Let’s see in 40 weeks (since I read somewhere that a habit becomes so after it has been done…

A friend suggested that I join a professional course, which seems like a very good one, but requires a substantial amount of payment. Even if it didn’t cost anything, there’s still the time needed to be invested. So any way you see it, there’s always a cost to learn anything. I know I wrote previously…

  • Political Statement

My wife and I were watching a clip about a parliamentary session, where the politician gave a very vague statement, something like, “We do not condone bad behaviour.” My wife complained that the speaker didn’t answer the question. Of course he didn’t, he’s a politician. He gave a political statement that can be interpreted either…
