Seasons and Exams

A colleague is resigning soon and as I asked him why, he explained the normal reasons, except for one. He said it was due to lack of work or things to do. He was working in Asia before coming to the UK, so he said there was a very different working culture where he used to work.

I agreed and said that in Malaysia, we used to have Whatsapp groups for almost all projects, and after meetings, we will have a post meeting talk or even more chat in the Whatsapp group. My colleague pointed to me and said ditto, except that they used Skype group.

Looking back though, I am fairly glad that I did my masters before working (Alhamdulillah) in the UK, as it distanced myself for a while from working. It also allowed me to readjust to not bent on finishing work all the time, or be worried of some updates that need to be chased upon. Still, the habit lingers and I sometimes get anxious if there is not much work to do. For now, I think I will be continuing with taking IRSE exams. There are two more modules – C and D – and that is excluding module B that I have just recently sat. The result would take a while but even if I don’t pass module B, the preparation for module C and D will contribute to module B too.

It is also said that the short days, and long nights during these cold months are good for revision. I do not quite agree as the cold to me only beckons me to hide under the warm blanket. I must though admit that my children sleep early in winter, so it is far easier to read and revise while the house is quiet.

That’s it then, time to study.

Thank you for reading.

Recently the study group I joined was talking about minor accidents and it was a good exercise to go through these cases reported by Rail Accident and Investigation Branch (RAIB), because these accidents most of the time are caused by similar underlying causes, and in left unchecked, will cause more serious accidents. If we look…

I have just finished IRSE module C and D today, a completion of the IRSE exams. Altogether there are 4 modules, A, B, C and D, and I started taking the exams with module A, in 2022. It has been 3 years constantly preparing for exams, that today I feel a bit ’empty’ after completing…
