Getting Your Money Worth

I am a bit stingy with money and when buying things I try to make the most of things. In the UK where it is compulsory to show the price per kilogram, this is quite easy because you just choose the ones that cost the least for the same weight. But things get a bit more complicated if it is not priced per weight, for example a box of tissues where it is indicated by the price per 100 pieces and the pieces don’t have the same size. Nevertheless you can still roughly gauge the value by looking at the size and your experience using the tissues, so that you can maximise your spending.

But how about for things that are intangible such as software or online services? How do you maximise the value and get the most out of your money? I don’t know the answer but my guess is you pay these items that are within your means, that means a lot to you. If you use a service heavily like a streaming music service, and you feel its absence strongly, I suggest that this is worth your money.

Similarly in education or continuous learning, if you feel that the course or module is useful, it would be worth it to actually pay for it and spend your time on it. To be honest though there are a few online courses that I paid for because I thought it was a ‘steal’ and it would be useful for me, but I end up not finishing or even starting them! So in the end these courses are a waste anyway.

What I don’t get though that some people pay for certain courses or masters and come to class, only to look so bored and be uninterested in them. It seems like a big waste of their money and time! But this is everyone individual ‘spending’ so I guess I shouldn’t begrudge them but I hope that I would always try to benefit every opportunity to learn.

A decade ago, this date in 2024 would be so unimaginable and futuristic, that it is hard to imagine how the world would be, compared to 2014. Yet, here we are. The world seems familiar, and a lot of things are like we imagined, but much too differs from our imagination. I still remember that…

    GoA4

When I started working in the railway industry, during the first few weeks, I was told that the metro system I was working on was GoA4. Alright, I thought, this is GoA4. Whatever that means. Over the years that piece of information becomes embedded and is accepted as the universal truth. One of the first…

I was in a meeting today when I described a process using a cake analogy, again, and most of my colleagues looked at me in askance. I think I should try using other analogies other than a cake analogy. The thing is though I like cake and I think most people have eaten cake, even…

  • Define Your Happiness

Someone once asked me what do I, and everyone in the whole world wants. I answered then, happiness. Everyone wants to be happy. I still think the same now, but my definition of happiness is different. In fact I think everyone’s definition of happiness SHOULD be different. If you’re re-using someone else’s definition, most likely…
