You Need to Have a Plan

Even though Muhammad Ali says ‘everyone has a plan, until they get hit in the face’, you still need to have a plan. Especially so since life will hit you in the face, many times. And you might want to change your plan(s) every time you get hit, which has nothing wrong at all, as long as there’s a valid reason for it.

I got to think like this because I met a fellow Malaysian who stayed in the UK for more than 20 years. He asked what’s my plans are, and lamented that he should have planned (better) from the start. He said that he made the mistake of just going with the flow and puff! It was suddenly 20 years has passed since he stayed in the UK. I think the same thing can happen anywhere you are, where you are just making ends meet when suddenly you’re in 30s, 40s or even 70s. Good thing in Islam, it’s laid out what I need to achieve in the end and afterlife, but the paths in between is open to interpretation. That interpretation is the plan.

And what should the plan be, I asked him back. He said that depends to the person. And I agree. It depends on the person’s values and his/her definition of happiness. One man’s thrash is another man’s treasure. Some people might want to do nothing but travel the world while others might want to stay at their own lovely house. Most people are torn in between, wanting to travel while at home, and reminded of home when on the road.

As for me, I have my plans but it changes like the British weather. Let’s dua that it will lead to happy life and a good afterlife.

  • Advice and Being Supportive

I’ve mentioned before that some people don’t want advice. And I try not to dole them out, unwarranted. However today someone did asked my opinion, regarding working in the UK but halfway talking it out, I realised that this guy didn’t really want my opinion. My wife then came along and I dragged her through…

My daughter has a few close friends from school, whom she calls BFFs, and they share similar interests like artsy stuff, reading books and something else which I don’t pretend I know. But sometimes she does relate about how her friends do this or that differently compared to her doing it, so despite their similarities,…

  • New Habit Unlocked!

I’ve just created a reminder to take a photo of me and my wife every weekend. The title is a bit misleading as I’ve only started doing this and I consider it not a habit yet. Let’s see in 40 weeks (since I read somewhere that a habit becomes so after it has been done…
