Food Rules: Book Review
This book is short. Too short I think, and if I hadn’t known better, I would have thought that it is just one of those hacks where the writer just plucks anecdotes and send it out to print. But I know the author and has seen a Netflix series about his books, so I understand where this book is coming from.
I must though thank Allyn who diligently thought abd bought this book for me. The book, tells about how to eat. And it doesn’t shy from the fact that it is simple;
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants
Food Rules – Michael Pollan
That’s it. Then it goes on to reiterate them with some more ‘detail’ guidelines. None of them are new to me but it’s good to have them all in one place and be reminded. And it serves as an appetiser for Michael other books, I think.
I think this book is good for people who want the summary of what to eat (and not to eat), and how to do that. Or at least who appreciates these reminders. And probably if they feel that the science about food is too confusing. I on the other hand prefer some ‘heavy’ stories backing these guidelines, and I have seen in the Netflix show where Michael proves this things, so I guess his other books are the next step.
I do like though that the book also mentions prophet Muhammad hadiths/saying, about leaving your stomach 1/3 empty. I’ve heard this since I was a child, and it is refreshing to see it mentioned by a non-muslim writer. In a way, this book reminds me and enforces my belief.
Thank you for reading.
P.s I find it funny that the writer’s name and the fact he promotes eating plant have similarities.
