Kids Communication

My kids like to play this game: If you can only choose two types of gummy in your life that you can eat, what would you choose?

Who would be eating only on gummies their whole life? And why would you need to choose? What put you in this saccharine situation?

I was reading the book Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg that I was reminded of the situations above. My kids were communicating in a different type to me.

Charles Duhigg said they are three areas of communication.

My kids were maybe in the “WHO ARE WE?” communication type, with a blend of “HOW DO WE FEEL?”, while I was completely absorbed in my own bubble of speech in the type “WHAT’S THIS REALLY ABOUT?”. No wonder we weren’t in sync.

I’ll keep on reading the book, and write more observations in the future.

Thank you for reading.

MRTC stands for Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, a government linked company in Malaysia which I used to work since 2013 until 2021. Today marks the day that I started working there (and a decade of working there, if I had stayed). I spent 8 years working there, and although I have left the place for…

I joined a very interesting webinar recently, where the speaker is very passionate about his field which is the robotics. Recently a famous Malaysian who is living in the UK, showed how he manages to buy a trolley of groceries for only GBP 50. But is the groceries in the UK really that cheap? Actually it is not so cheap compared to Malaysia. GBP 50 is roughly RM 300, and you can get a similar…

  • Late to the Party

I was trying to optimise my life today, by making a Google sheet that lists all of my children’s school events, and after that I thought it would be great to have a script that could automatically create these as events in a calendar. I already have a calendar allocated for the kids, I just…
