IRSE Exams 2024 – Results

The results for the exams I took last year has been announced. Good news and bad news: I took two papers which are IRSE exam module C and D. For module C was a surprisingly positive result while module D was a near miss (aka I failed but not too bad). There’s even feedback on my answer result and mine has the comment ‘marginal’ on one of my answers. I wonder what does that mean? Does that mean my result is small? Upon googling it, it seems to say that it means the aforementioned answer was borderline. But in the end I failed module D, because I answered ‘poorly’ on it.

Upon asking my friend who took the paper, it seems that quite a number of people had difficulty with it. The exam is focused on the application of railway signalling as well as maintenance. I lack these because I didn’t have the experience doing practical work on the mainline both in Malaysia nor UK. Based on other people’s struggles, I think this is a common situation.

My next step is likely to revise for the exam again, and also add some extra effort to increase my experience with hands-on activity. Volunteering on heritage railway might be helpful. We’ll see.

Thank you for reading.
