Relearning

I’m a fan of learning new things and in the same vein, re-learning things that I have learnt before. For example I’ve relearned how to drive when I came to the UK, in order to pass the driving licence test. I’ve also relearned about signalling when I move to the UK, and also learned new things about signalling, especially regarding mainline signalling. I’ve even relearned how to speak English when I moved to Manchester.

But never was I asked to relearn to speak a number before, not until today. I was preparing pasta for my youngest daughter who asked me how long it would take.
“Three minutes,” I said.
She said okay. Then she said, “Can you relearn to speak three?” She emphasised the ‘th’ in the word three.
What did she just said, I thought to myself.
“It’s three, not tree,” she added.

Own the audacity! I played around with her and pretended not to understand but in the end I had to relearn how to pronounce threeee. Well you learn new things everyday. I’ll relearn to pronounce the word ‘four’ maybe, tomorrow.

Thank you for reading.

… in 5 years time? That’s the question that is normally asked in interviews, or something along the line. Whether it’s a 3-years, 5-years, or a decade long plan into the future, they all ask the same thing; to project or foretell the future. I was asked the question today during a discussion with my…

  • You Need to Have a Plan

Even though Muhammad Ali says ‘everyone has a plan, until they get hit in the face’, you still need to have a plan. Especially so since life will hit you in the face, many times. And you might want to change your plan(s) every time you get hit, which has nothing wrong at all, as…

  • Poorly

For those who don’t know, poorly means unwell, or sick. I think it is a north-west/Manchester slang (Mancunian) thing. Or maybe every British uses that, I don’t know. At first I find it appalling as it seems poor equals to sick, but now I believe it came from the sorry condition one is when he/she…

  • Life Legacy

My father-in-law passed away about two years ago and my mother-in-law passed away not long after. They had been living near/with my brother in law, who recently announced that they are storing or giving away some of the belongings to my late parents-in-laws. I saw some pictures of the belongings and led me to think…

    Retirement and Romanticism

My wife and I visited a group of friends recently and we inadvertently talked about future and retirement. One point of interest was that in Malaysia, people are normally forced out of work and into retirement, while in the UK, quite a lot of people, especially knowledge workers, continue to work past their 60s. This…

    Just Get It Done

I am getting old and older and I am now becoming more comfortable with the concept to just get the things done. I used to spend hours customising my phone or PC background, but nowadays I just use the default ones. While doing my work recently, I must say I ‘submit’ a very shitty work…
