No One Really Knows…

I was listening to this podcast recently and went through a few emotions. At first the guest sounds genuine and interesting, and it seem I would be learning a lot as she seemed to say a lot of unique wisdom, but then it seems a bit like ‘toxic productivity’ with suffering (or is it hardship) the road to happiness. Good thing the host, Ali, countered with his opinion that balance is the key to happiness.

I then decided to stop listening as I felt the guest’s values differ too much to mine. Yes she has succeed in career and business, but I felt that those came at a cost. I don’t want to criticize and prod through her argument or statement, trying to find ways to find them wrong, because in the end, I don’t know for sure myself. Plus I would then (subconsciously) begin to attack her character and life decision, in order to make sense of my path in life.

I think in life we just need to accept that people are different, that they think differently, they have different experiences and values and are motivated by different things. The universal question in life is as far as I can see is, what is the purpose of life? And this in itself has different value to different people, whether he/she is religious or not, Muslim or Buddha, and even in some religions, differs between sects. So if this grand question has widely different answers, how can such menial or detailed questions, such as whether you should work 8 to 10pm daily or not, would result in an unanimous answer (I won’t work that long, and I am proponent of a 4 days work.)

Well the answer is we all can never agree on anything. No one really knows the best way to do anything, only a generally good guide sometimes, which we sometimes take for granted as common sense. Other than that, as long as your method is within the concept of justice and morality, anything goes. Keep believing and keep doing.

Thank you for reading.

I’ve always tried to not use paper and keep things digital. I’ve not realised how this has affected my children’s thinking, until today. … in 5 years time? That’s the question that is normally asked in interviews, or something along the line. Whether it’s a 3-years, 5-years, or a decade long plan into the future, they all ask the same thing; to project or foretell the future. I was asked the question today during a discussion with my…
