My Teacher Is A Monster: Book Review

This is a short children’s book but I thought I would review it here mostly so that I can look back in the future.

I like the book. It tells the story about Robert, who thinks his angry teacher, is a monster. But upon one afternoon accidentally spending time with her in the park, he thinks otherwise of her.

The book is short and straightforward. Unfortunately the words don’t rhyme, as I think the writer decided to make it terse and short. The sentence did repeat a lot, so that helps in reading for younger readers, and also keeps the circular structure. What’s really strong about the book is the drawing, where the teacher gradually changes as the story progresses. The drawing is skilled in that it is almost imperceptible! I only noticed it towards the end, and when my son pointed it out. I couldn’t help but flipped back through the pages to see the changes.

Today I read it again for the third time and I still the book did a great job. It is lighthearted and funny, but has just the right amount of lesson slipped in. Overall a recommended read.

Thank you for reading.
