Recently I watched a documentary about couples trying to get kids, and consulted a fertility specialist and her approach was to remove the couples exposure to plastics or plastic based materials. She claimed and has been campaigning for years that the exposure to plastics and the chemicals within such as phthalates (that is so hard to spell, I had to google it!) and parabens were causing the sperm counts to fall, causing infertility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is interesting to see that the couples in the documentary were well exposed to plastics and plasticizers (just like most households are), and struggled to find replacements. I agree with the specialist that it is very hard to do and the best approach is to at least to reduce exposure through consumptions. It is still very hard, considering milk, oil and all liquids are contained in plastic bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There’s also the possibility (or should I say certainty) that most animals, especially fish, have high levels of plastics or micro plastics in them. I remember reading when I was a teenager that someone had the clever idea to add small plastic beads into shampoos to enhance the feel of scrubbing your hair, before it was realised that these beads are clogging filtration systems and even worse, ends up in the gut of fishes. These has long been banned as people baulked at the horror. Fast forward to today, I don’t think anyone is surprised anymore that fish or seafoods that we eat has microplastic in them. It seems to be an accepted fact, much like global warming is happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, when we eat these plastics, do we actually ingest the dinosaurs? Do they live through us or we actually become part-dinosaurs? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
