My daughter asked me during dinner today if I know the meaning of the word bigback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What?” I asked. “Bigback,” she said again. I asked her to spell it out. Still didn’t ring a bell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s a term for someone who likes food,” she said. “Although it can be derogatory, depending on the tone.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I thought that’s ‘foodie’?” I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“No one uses that term anymore,” she nonchalantly replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you mean no ones uses that anymore?! The world still uses it, the internet has hashtags using that, and I still hate that term because I don’t think foodie is a precise term because if you like something or good at something, you add ‘-er’ at the end, not ‘-ie’, e.g. footballer, singer, painter or cooker. You don’t say “I am a cookie because I like to cook.” So ‘foodie’ is wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But ‘bigback’ is even worse. How can it make sense? Big butt might make more sense since people who likes to eat, has big butt normally. Apparently, after I googled<\/a>, it does has connotation with the back or buttocks. Now I have to go and tell my daughter to stop using the word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, I can’t imagine a term that was coined when I was still starting in my career, is now considered as an outdated term. RIP foodie, I never liked you anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
