I felt a bit slow today while working, in the sense it took me quite a long time to digest certain part of my work. I also joined a study group and by the end of it, I was partially lost. My colleague who conducted the study group blissfully explained points that I was struggling to grasp. At that moment, I wondered why some people have more capability than others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why do we have brain fog? Why does some people understand things faster? I think there are a few levels to this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
First would be the latent or natural mental capacity of a person. Some people are just born smarter. Second would be the exposure to the subject being discussed. If you are swimming day in day out in a certain area or subject, then you would have an easier time in understanding related topics to it. Third would be the interest or motivation in understanding, I guess. Or is that correlation instead of causation, where if a person is interested in a topic, he or she will spend more time focusing on it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So going back to me being a bit slow today, I guess my main problem was in the second and mostly third factor. I am not very exposed to the topic that was discussed, and related to the third factor, I don\u2019t quite see me having any impact or doing any work in regards to the topic that was being discussed. My takeaway: learnt about things that interest me, and if they don\u2019t , learn about what the benefits they can bring, so that I can be interested in them, and hence increase my focus.
Anyways these are all my conjectures and not backed by any research. Feel free to dispute. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
