So I begin to some mini coding projects, putting prompts to create some kind of automation. My wife asked what I was doing and whether I know how to code now. I said no, I just copied pasted snippets to make them work.

She saw the meme above and shared it with me. To be fair I only used one GPT, and not 5, but other than that, I can sympathise with the meme. I don’t think there is any deep thinking involved in me doing this projects and like these AI, I don’t really understand what I am doing, rather rapidly implementing the codes/snippets and see whether they work. While I am putting machine codes into a machine in the hope it works, AI is spouting text to human in the hope that we understand, or in this case, apply them properly.

Another eerie parallel that I see is that although I don’t really understand why this variable is declared here, and why this function is there, I start to see a pattern of how codes should look like. Although not as rapid nor with as many data as GPT, I am building an understanding and connecting the dots through constant exposure.

So far those are my takeaways from using GPT to learn about coding. Let’s see what my opinion will be in one month’s time.

Thank you for reading.

I paid for ChatGPT Plus recently and since it’s for a month, I am trying to use it at every useful moment.
